Required Course Texts
To complete the full training, educators will need the following texts: Uncovering the Logic of English by Denise Eide, The Reading Comprehension Blueprint by Nancy Hennessy, Syntax by Literacy How. Unit 2: Assessment & Instruction
Leverage the four types of reading assessment within an MTSS framework to deliver explicit, systematic instruction using cognitive strategies and the gradual release model.
15 PD HOURS
Unit 3: Word Recognition & Spelling
Master the 44 phonemes and their corresponding graphemes. Learn evidence-based methods for teaching decoding, encoding, handwriting, and high-frequency "heart" words.
5 PD HOURS
Unit 4: Fluency
Bridge the gap between word recognition and comprehension. Learn how to accurately assess Oral Reading Fluency (ORF) and implement evidence-based routines that build rate, accuracy, and prosody.
7 PD HOURS
Unit 5: Vocabulary & Morphology
Move beyond rote memorization. Explicitly teach Tier 2 and 3 vocabulary, leverage morphology, and equip students with strategies to unlock meaning independently.
